LEGO robotics: Idler gear

We used our toy cogs to see which way each cog would turn if we twisted only one cog.
If we have two cogs they spin in opposite directions, but if we have 3 cogs, the two outside cogs spin in the same direction while the middle one spins in the opposite direction.  The same happens with our lego cogs.

Robotics week 2012

This week is EU Robotics Week!
In our school we really enjoy robotics!
We are looking forward  to being part of the Galway Junior First LEGO League with many other Galway schools.  Today was our first taste of robotics.  We think we will be very good at it!

Twirly bird LEGO in senior infants

We made twirly birds in LEGO today.  They were not too difficult.
We were able to programme them ourselves.
When they didn't work perfectly we were able to figure out where we went wrong.
We just LOVE LEGO programming!
Have a look at the videos of our lego twirly birds and our programming.

We are able to make our twirly birds change direction by twisting the elastic band at the front.
